bloggerupper 9: june tunes
i’m not in my twenties anymore
late on this blog post. here’s a june recap…
giverupper stuff:
had a really fun time hosting june tunes out in the burbs. shout out to lil buddy and airport casino for joining us and performing.
i’ve known the members of lil buddy since middle school/high school so that was a really special one for me.
shout out to chelsie for making amazing food.
shout out to my lil niece for taking some fun photos.
hoping to do a house show in winter and a house show in summer every year. always looking for friends/friends of friends to come play and hang out.
shout out to the weather for holding off until we were done playing ha
jake and i have been mixing the ep and it is currently getting mastered. give her a purr is my second ep of original music. i’ll do a little writeup on the ep after we release.
if you haven’t already checked out the new singles, you can stream them on all the things. here’s a link.
i also shot a fun little video in my backyard.
we have a release show at uncommon ground on july 15. jackson jay kidder and terriers will once again be joining giverupper to round out a night of great music.
uncommon ground has great food. so come hungry. they also have great coffee for any non-drinkers. there’s something for you here :)
anyone who buys a ticket will get a free digital download of the album, an album art keychain, and a pia sticker.
shoutout to judy lee designing the flyer and the sticker. shoutout to georgia tankard for taking the photos for all give her a purr related things.
other stuff:
haven’t been to a ton of shows, but did enjoy a few.
krista, lucy jene, smith, the girl at uncommon ground. they performed so wonderfully. in addition to performing solo sets, they have been cooking up some new tunes that feature all three of them in beautiful harmonies. think haim or boygenius. all three have their own cool songwriting styles on their own and are finding something cool in this new format.
also uncommon ground, saw lainey jean, danny mcdermed, and jessie vespera. lainey just put out a sick tune called no with thumbtax.
porches is one of my all time favorite bands. i would say the mount rushmore of my 30s has been mk.gee, dijon, porches, and mini trees. got to see them twice- at logan square arts fest and then immediately after at beat kitchen.
they dropped a new album called mask. i have to admit it really grew on me. it sounds a lot more lo fi and raw than the other stuff they have put out. but it made sense live. it felt like they went back to basics and the songs just carried. the energy of the crowd was really good and it made me want to listen to the album again and again. so mission accomplished. the songs were good. isn’t that what we all want as songwriters.
gonna go to more shows in july. definitely stoked for NNAMDI and The Cool Kids at Chop Shop. checking out the homie danny and his group all the wine at subterranean. milou moon at color club.
had a ton of fun at the pokemon exhibit in the field museum. fellow millenials go check it out. go see how big an omastar would actually look.
went to madison for the first time with jake. got to pick up some sound gear and do wisconsin things.
and in true millenial fashion….going to the big 3 when they come to chicago. can’t wait to watch some washed hoops.
not alone in this- loved obsession, check it out if you haven’t. i love a movie that isn’t super heroes or a reboot.
celebrated jackson’s bachelor party with a sox game, brunch, and a good hang
been hanging in the yard. chels and i put up some cool lights.
