bloggerupper 7: an april fool

i’m just another fish inside the sea

march was nice. some updates as we start april

giverupper things:

other things:

  • been to a few shows so far and looking forward to going to many more as spring starts and summer nears.

    • shout out thumbtax, gosh diggity, and pocketboy solid. cool in the sanctuary at epiphany. gosh diggity had the vibes jumping with 8 bit sounds and pop punk melodies. so nice to hear thumbtax live, ripping.

    • caroline davis absolutely blew me away at the red room. her new album fallows is out and you should go buy it/listen to it/stream it. solo alto saxophone with effects. it was so good for my spirit. went with one of my best friends and favorite saxophonists ben.

    • little miss remember tore it up as well. shredding guitars and heartfelt songs. beautifully done.

    • loved getting back to bookclub for another foundations event hosted by opalvinopal of local motive. mike does a great job creating a songwriter in rounds event (a round is 1 tune from 5 different artists. 3 rounds at the event). on top of the music being great there’s a nice sense of community in times where we are spending our days alone or at work. shout out youknowac, jackson (not gonna link him every time lol), joe perona, and cole degenova for their artistry and insight. daytime shows rule.

    • happy birthday to my father in law steve who turned 70. we had an excellent 70s themed birthday full of hip outfits and 70s vinyl records. chels rounded it out with a 70s spread and continues to be the greatest host of all time. i just move the chairs and do the grunt work.

    • sadly, my uncle jim passed away. although we weren’t super close in my adult life, he was a really kind, funny, and cool uncle when we were kids. he gave me my bass guitar in middle school as an exchange for getting good grades. he was a lifelong songwriter, singer, and guitarist and frequented open mics and suburban bars to perform. he really was a great guitarist and underrated musician- great a reading charts, improvising, and writing. cancer sucks. i’m glad i got to see him a few days before he passed. we of course talked gear and watched the prince superbowl half time show on youtube. r.i.p uncle jim. we miss you!

      • i was sent a voice memo of one of his songs after he passed. it was a song that he had written about my grandparents passing away. one of the things that makes me sad about his passing is that no one will ever hear his voice again. he had a really beautiful singing voice.

thanks for reading, until next time…

j.t.
